Needful Things…

Not my territory.

Since my MIL sold off her food stall last november, she’s been at home everyday and cooking everyday. There’s always something to eat, no doubt. Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

It is so different from last time, where the only one cooking on weekdays will be me, if I am industrious enough. Of course I do not cook complicated stuff that require more than 10 ingredients. My menu is limited to a few dishes, basically the same:

If its chicken, i could cook ayam lemak cili padi (my fave!), ayam tomato, ayam masak kicap, chicken soup,  chicken curry.

Beef I rarely cook, because when i return from school, I didn’t have much time to cook it till its tender. If its beef, i’d have it sliced thinly so it’ll cook faster. I could cook masak kicap, beef curry, bistik (the malay form of beef steak, but it’s not the slab of meat that you eat at lawry’s).

If its fish (usually i stick to pomfret, stingray, garoupa, siakap, tenggiri, also dory) i could cook sweet sour fish, masak kicap, sambal tumis, steamed fish, singgang, soup, bbq sambal (esp if its stingray),

If its sotong, it would most definitely be sotong masak hitam, or curry.

Then there is the occasional fishball soup, or tom yam, or quail egg sambal….

For western fare, i love to cook fried macaroni, macaroni tomato soup (ramli loves this), spaghetti meatballs, bolognaise, and aglio olio (my mom’s fave). I also used to do black pepper roast chicken, but since my oven went bust, no more of that.

Now why am I listing out my limited cooking-ability list?

Because, I do not cook anymore. I somehow feel that the kitchen ain’t my territory anymore. It’s a weird feeling but I guess everyone who cooks will understand. I rarely step into the kitchen these days, only to make milk for the babe. Maybe this is how the animals feel, this sense of territorial reign… it’s inexplicable.

So, to sum it all up, i miss cooking.

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens

Heavy rain these few weeks have been pleasant. And today the afternoon heavy showers bring a certain tranquility to my soul.

I love the rain. But not those freaky sunny ones. I mean those dark, gloomy, downpours that drench and soak and cleanses the ground. And the smell of the rain…simply heavenly.

What’s better than heavy rain? Well, being in a nice cafe sipping a cuppa. This cool weather has made me yearn always to go to starbucks or coffee bean or coffee club and just drink coffee. A pity that the husband doesn’t share this same passion as me. I feel so ‘cheated’ if we do go out, and there’s a nice coffee place, and we didn’t stop by to savour the coffee. I don’t mean ‘gulping’ down the coffee. I want to slowwwwly sip it.

Did i mention just now that the husband doesn’t LIKE being in a coffee place? He just expects me to grab one and go.

Which defeats the whole purpose of going there lah, which is to SAVOUR the drink.

My mom doesn’t get it too. Maybe ayah does. And my sis. But we don’t get to do it so often because ibu doesn’t see the point in it, pretty much like the husband.

Today i continued with my curtain sewing. I’ve been at it for 2-3 days now, and i do enjoy it (not when the machine gets jammed up though). I’ve completed sewing the curtain and day curtain for the dining room and will proceed with the balcony’s. If I can find nice cotton material one of these days, ooyah’s pajamas will be my next project.

This coming monday and tuesday i will be meeting up with my friends. I sure do hope i can do some coffee-relinquishing by a window watching the rain wash it all away…

All I want from Bonus…

It’s not much really. Especially since my bonus was pro-rated due to my study leave. But I thank God for being given it because I didn’t think I would get it. With my meagre pay, it really isn’t much. I can’t help but envy those officers who earn 4-5k….2.2 month bonus is REALLY quite a lot!

I’ve already spent about 2k. Gulp.

Anyway, my wishlist for the bonus (s0me of it I will surely have to forgo.)

1. Driving lessons
2. New phone

3. gold chain (chances are this will have to go)

4. Allerhand baby-bag (this one too!)

5. baby cot for ooyah (wait- shouldn’t this be in HER wishlist?)

That’s it. But I just know i will be spending so much more cos i will be going out often; food will be the major culprit. But it’s okay lah….easy come easy go what….

So, husband, maybe you can sponsor some of the things on my wishlist? Pleaseeeee?
